Sizing of a Wire Mesh Demister
As is well known, wire mesh demisters can provide high separation efficiency with low pressure drop: droplets down to 3 microns in diameter can be separated.
To achieve the best performance, proper sizing of the demisters is of utmost importance. With AFP ProCalcDem, our analytical calculation method, we provide our customers with two different services depending on the process conditions and fluid characteristics:
- Verification of an existing demister: the customer provides the process conditions and the characteristics of the demister. Based on this data, our technical department verifies the efficiency, process pressure drop and dimensions of the existing demister.
- Sizing of a new demister: based on the process conditions, we define the type and dimensions of the demister required to achieve the specified efficiency and pressure drop.
After sizing, we can determine whether replacement of the demisters and vessel is required. We can also provide a calculation report clearly indicating the separation efficiency and pressure drop under the specified process conditions.

Comparison of different working conditions
The comparison of different operating conditions and demister configurations allows their performance to be evaluated in terms of flow distribution, separation efficiency and pressure drop, identifying the solution best suited to the specific process requirements.
